A local BNP leader was hacked to death and another man injured in a violent attack in Adabor, Dhaka, on Wednesday night, allegedly over a previous dispute.

The deceased was identified as Md Abul Bashar Badsha, 45, general secretary of a ward unit of Adabor Thana BNP. The injured, Md Saddam, 35, is undergoing treatment at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.

According to family members and police, the attack took place at around 8:30pm at the Noboda Housing intersection in Adabor. A group of 8 to 10 assailants, allegedly led by a local man known as Majnu, attacked the two men with sharp weapons following an earlier enmity.

Badsha's brother, Sabuj, said the victim worked as a private car driver for a man named Rony in the Town Hall area. Originally from Nandail upazila in Mymensingh, Badsha was the son of Gafur and had been living with his family in a rented house on Road No. 1, Block B, Adabor.

He said Badsha had attended a local arbitration meeting where a dispute related to a sports game had been resolved. However, while returning from the meeting, the group allegedly ambushed and hacked the two men.

Badsha was first taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital before being transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) due to the severity of his injuries.

He later succumbed to his injuries at around 11:45pm while undergoing treatment at the hospital's One Stop Emergency Centre (OSEC).

Confirming the death, Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, said the body had been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
