Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Thursday foiled an attempt by India's Border Security Force (BSF) to push seven people into Bangladesh through the Sahardatola border in Gangni upazila of Meherpur.
According to BGB and local sources, members
of a BSF border outpost in Nadia district of West Bengal tried to push the
seven individuals into Bangladesh through the area between sub-pillars 5 and 6S
of International Border Pillar No. 142 in the early hours of the day.
Local residents said the group comprised six
men and one woman. Their identities could not be immediately confirmed. They
were reportedly seen near the border fence before the attempt was thwarted.
Lt Col Md Nazmul Hasan, commanding officer of
BGB Battalion-6, said an attempt had been made early in the morning to push
seven people into Bangladesh.
"Due to the BGB's firm stance and prompt
response, they were unable to enter the country," he said.
He added that BGB personnel remain on maximum
alert along the border and are closely monitoring the situation.
