Hanging body of a freedom fighter was recovered from his residence at Fatikchhari upazila in Chattogram early Saturday.
The deceased was Jahurul Anwar, 75, a resident of
Hamzar Tila area under the Fatikchhari municipality.
Family members found him hanging beneath a staircase
in his house around 5:30am.
On information, police recovered the body and sent
to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) morgue for autopsy.
Police, quoting family members, said Jahurul had
three sons and two daughters.
He recently sold a piece of land to a relative and
had been under mental stress for several days over issues linked to the property.
Officer in-Charge (OC) Robiul Alam Khan of
Fatikchhari Police Station, said "Jahurul had become involved in several
civil cases over land disputes. He had previously attempted suicide twice
because of the mental pressure arising from those matters."
"We have filed an unnatural death case and will
take legal action after receiving the autopsy report, if necessary," he
added.
