A Cumilla court on Tuesday sent expelled Islami Chhatra Shibir leader Jisan Mia Pradhan to jail in a case filed over the alleged rape of a woman and forced abortion.
Senior Judicial Magistrate of Cognisance Court-3 Tayeb Uddin passed the order after police produced him before the court, said Monir Hossain Patwari, lawyer for the complainant.
Earlier, around 5:40pm, Jisan was taken to court after a medical board at Cumilla Medical College Hospital found him fit and discharged him.
On Saturday, police arrested four people, including Jisan Mia, in the case.
Family members claimed that Jisan was found “unconscious” near Laksham Railway Junction in Cumilla at around 9:45pm on Friday, a day after he went "missing" from Daudkandi. He was taken to Cumilla Medical College Hospital the same night for treatment.
Police, however, said Jisan was not abducted
and had gone into hiding.
Jisan Mia, 28, was the central assistant international affairs secretary of Islami Chhatra Shibir. The organisation expelled him following the allegations.
