The government has introduced a tax rebate scheme for donations made to 11 designated charitable and public welfare organisations in a move aimed at promoting philanthropy and social welfare activities.
The Internal Resources Division (IRD) of the Ministry of Finance issued a notification to this effect recently.
The facility has been granted under Section 76(1) of the Income Tax Act, 2023, allowing individual taxpayers to claim tax rebates on eligible donations made to the approved organisations in accordance with the law.
Under the scheme, donations to a number of recognised institutions will qualify for tax relief. These include the ASHIC Foundation for Childhood Cancer, Bangladesh Cancer Aid Trust, Al-Markazul Islami, Disabled Child Foundation, Sherpur Diabetic Association, Mawna Diabetic Association, Bangladesh Thalassaemia Samity, Autism Welfare Foundation, BRAC, Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, and the Dhaka and Chittagong Maa-O-Shishu Hospitals.
The tax rebate facility will take effect from 1 July 2026 and will remain in force until 30 June 2030.
