Govt will move to launch 'Best Farmer Award:' Fakhrul

The government will take up efforts to launch the "Best Farmer Award" to recongise the farmers' contributions to building the national economy and ensuring food security, said Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday.

Agriculture is the most promising and positive sector in the economy, and has repeatedly left its mark since independence, the minister said while addressing the 22nd founding anniversary celebration programme of the Diploma Krishibid Institution.

However, in recent years, expected progress was not reached in the sector, Mirza Fakhrul noted at the event held at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh in the capital.

Now, owing to their relentless toil and economic contributions, it is high time they get their proper honour and increased incentives, Fakhrul further said.

Noting that Fakhrul himself hails from a farmer's family and is the child of a farmer father, the minister said he has witnessed first-hand the lives and struggles of the farming community since his childhood.
