The
Bangladesh Coast Guard has increased patrols and hi-tech surveillance in the
border areas under its jurisdiction, including the Sundarbans, to prevent
illegal “push-ins” from India.
Coast Guard
media wing official Lt Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon confirmed the heightened alert
level on Friday amid a recent hike in attempts by India’s BSF to push people into
Bangladesh in other sections of the border.
The push-in
attempts have risen since a BJP government assumed power in West Bengal.
To ensure
national security, the Coast Guard has increased round-the-clock patrols,
intelligence gathering, and surveillance with support from drones and modern
technologies, said Sabbir Alam Sujon.
So far no push-in attempts have been reported in Coast Guard-monitored border areas, the official said.
