A total of 9,367,418 sacrificial animals were slaughtered across Bangladesh during Eid-ul-Azha 2026, according to preliminary data collected from all eight divisions under the Department of Livestock Services (DLS).

State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku on Thursday (4 June) said that the nationwide count included 4,864,158 cattle and buffaloes, 4,502,233 goats and sheep, and 1,027 animals of other species.

Compared to last year’s 10,379,202 sacrificial animals, the number of animals sacrificed this year has decreased by around 10.12 lakh.

According to the preliminary data from the Department of Livestock Services, a total of 9,367,418 animals were sacrificed across the country in 2026, marking a decline of approximately 9.75% compared to the previous year.

According to the divisional breakdown, Dhaka recorded the highest number of sacrificial animals at 2,351,666. The figure comprised 1,369,005 cattle and buffaloes, 982,107 goats and sheep, and 554 other animals.

Rajshahi ranked second with 2,342,869 sacrificial animals, including 796,121 cattle and buffaloes, 1,546,706 goats and sheep, and 42 animals of other species.

Chattogram recorded the third-highest number of sacrifices with 1,734,025 animals, consisting of 1,218,672 cattle and buffaloes, 514,992 goats and sheep, and 321 other animals.

Among the remaining divisions, Rangpur recorded 1,050,554 sacrificial animals, followed by Khulna with 846,005, Barishal with 400,160, Mymensingh with 367,818, and Sylhet with 274,321.

The data show that Dhaka division accounted for the largest share of the country's total sacrifices and also led in the number of cattle and buffaloes sacrificed. Rajshahi division, meanwhile, topped the list in goat and sheep sacrifices.

The state minister said the supply and management of sacrificial animals across the country remained satisfactory during the Eid season, with officials of the livestock department working extensively at the field level to ensure smooth operations.

He added that the figures are preliminary and may undergo minor revisions after the compilation of final reports from all districts and divisions.
