Final preparations are now underway at the historic Gore-e-Shahid Eidgah Maidan in Dinajpur as authorities gear up for what is widely regarded as Asia’s largest Eid congregation ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
The main Eid jamaat is scheduled to begin at 8:30am on Thursday (28 May), with hundreds of thousands of Muslims expected to gather from different parts of the country at the iconic prayer ground, known for its centuries-old tradition and massive turnout during Eid celebrations.
To ensure smooth management of the congregation, the authorities of Dinajpur Deputy Commissioner and Local authorities of Bangladesh Police have implemented extensive security and logistical arrangements across the Eidgah premises.
District Commissioner Md Rafiqul Islam and Superintendent of Police Musa Al Jedan on Tuesday visited the venue to inspect the final preparations. They were accompanied by officials from various government departments and law enforcement agencies.
Authorities said a three-tier security system has been put in place surrounding the entire Eidgah area. Police personnel, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members, and other security forces will remain deployed at important points throughout the congregation.
Observation towers have also been installed to monitor the movement of worshippers and maintain overall security. Metal detector scanners will be used at every entrance gate, while worshippers will only be allowed to carry prayer mats and umbrellas inside the Eidgah.
In addition to security measures, organisers have arranged drinking water facilities, medical teams, ablution spaces, and designated parking areas for devotees arriving from distant regions.
To ensure the khutbah and prayers reach every corner of the vast ground, around 80 microphones have been installed throughout the Eidgah complex.
The historic venue has also undergone fresh painting and beautification work ahead of the congregation, adding to the festive atmosphere surrounding the holy occasion.
Speaking during the inspection, District Commissioner Md Rafiqul Islam said all necessary preparations had been completed to ensure worshippers could perform Eid prayers peacefully and comfortably.
Superintendent of Police Mr Jedan said law enforcement agencies would remain fully alert throughout the event to maintain safety and discipline.
As Eid morning approaches, the centuries-old Gore-e-Shahid Eidgah is once again set to become a powerful symbol of unity, spirituality, and tradition, bringing together countless devotees in one of the world’s largest gatherings for Eid prayers.
