Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin has said that justice and punishment in the case involving the rape and killing of eight-year-old Ramisa Akter will be ensured swiftly.
In a Facebook post on Thursday night, he wrote, “The trial of this most heinous, brutal and barbaric crime committed against the foundations of humanity, values and civilisation must be ensured with the highest level of severity, with unprecedented and exemplary punishment.”
He further said, “In the fastest possible time, such punishment must be ensured for the offender so that it stands as a symbol of justice on the one hand and serves as the strictest warning to society on the other hand, ensuring that no monster ever dares to even think of committing such a vile crime in the future.”
The PM’s adviser said this is the “people’s collective demand to the people’s government”.
“The government is committed to fulfilling this public expectation, and justice and punishment will be ensured swiftly, inshallah,” he added.
Ramisa, a second-grader at Popular Model High School in Mirpur, was beheaded in a neighbouring flat in the same building on 19 May.
The main accused, Sohel Rana, 34, gave a confessional statement before a court on 20 May, admitting that he sexually assaulted and later killed the child.
