The government has abolished the Supreme Court Secretariat and reassigned 15 officials, including its senior secretary, to the law ministry.
On Tuesday, the Law and Justice Division issued a gazette notification in this regard by order of the president.
The notification said that, in consultation with the Bangladesh Supreme Court, 15 members of the Bangladesh Judicial Service have been attached to the Law and Justice Division until further orders regarding their posting to suitable positions.
The gazette also included a chart mentioning the officials’ names, their former posts at the now-abolished Supreme Court Secretariat and their newly attached positions.
Although the notification was issued on Tuesday (19 May), it was given retrospective effect from 10 April.
In a separate order issued on the same day (Tuesday), the officials’ joining date at the law ministry was also shown as 10 April.
On 9 April, the Supreme Court Secretariat Ordinance was repealed in the Jatiya Sangsad.
Former chief justice Syed Refaat Ahmed inaugurated the Supreme Court Secretariat on 11 December 2025.
He inaugurated the secretariat at the Supreme Court Administrative Building-4 in the presence of then interim government law adviser Asif Nazrul.
