Vice-Chancellor of Islamic University (IU) Prof Dr AKM Motinur Rahman has said that it is not possible to fulfill personal or group interests by misleading him.

“I want to move forward with everyone,” he said.

Motinur added, “I have served this university for 31 years, including as proctor during the 1/11 period. Criticism is natural when work begins, but what matters is whether it benefits students and the university.”

“It is not entirely baseless that a syndicate often forms around the university administration, especially centring on the vice-chancellor. While consultation is necessary for a vice-chancellor, my true syndicate is the university law and regulations,” he added.

The VC made the remarks on Saturday during an exchange meeting with journalists working at the university held at the conference room of the administrative building.

IU Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr M Yeaqub Ali, Treasurer Prof Dr Jahangir Alam, IU Journalists Association General Secretary Juel Rana, Press Club President Abir Hossen, General Secretary Nazmul Hussain, Reporters’ Unity President Sakib Aslam and General Secretary Robiul Alam along with other journalists were present at the event.

During the meeting, the newly appointed vice-chancellor announced plans to build a memorial monument for the July uprising martyrs near the main gate, saying it will be implemented soon.

He also reaffirmed the university’s commitment to media freedom, urged journalists to support the institution’s image, and requested prior communication with the administration on major issues for possible resolution.
