A Dhaka court on Monday placed two individuals, including a leader of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League, on a one-day remand each in a case filed with Shahbagh Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
The accused are Farhan Tanvir Nasif, organising secretary of the Sir AF Rahman Hall unit Chhatra League at Dhaka University, and Rubel Mia, a microbus driver.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam passed the order following a remand plea filed by the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Monomoth Halder.
During the hearing, State Prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon argued in favour of the remand, while defence lawyer Tarikul Islam pleaded for its cancellation.
According to the case statement, on 2 May, a group of people brought out a procession in the Dhaka University area, chanting provocative slogans allegedly aimed at reviving the activities of the banned organisation and conspiring against the state.
The accused were arrested at the scene, while 20 to 25 others fled.
A case was filed with the police station under the Anti-Terrorism Act in connection with the incident.
