Gynecologist Dr Sayma Akter filed a general diary (GD) with Madan Police Station on Thursday after receiving death threats for speaking to the media about an 11-year-old madrasa student’s pregnancy.

The physician expressed deep concern for her and her family's safety following a wave of online harassment.

The incident began on 30 April when the child visited Dr Akter’s clinic in Madan Upazila. Upon examination, the doctor discovered the girl was 27 weeks pregnant. When questioned, the victim alleged that a madrasa teacher, Aman Ullah Sagar, had raped her.

After news of the pregnancy broke, Dr Akter provided a professional assessment of the victim’s condition to several television channels and social media outlets. Since the broadcast, unidentified individuals have used various Facebook accounts and WhatsApp numbers to hurl abuse and threaten the doctor with murder and gang rape.

"I and my family currently feel insecure and face a life risk," Dr Akter stated in her police complaint. Investigations revealed that many of the accounts used to send these threats have since been deleted or disabled.

Madan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tarikul Islam confirmed the filing of the GD. "We are working to ensure the physician’s security," he said, though he declined to provide further details citing the ongoing investigation.

Meanwhile, the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Mossina Islam granted a three-day remand for the accused teacher, Aman Ullah Sagar, on Thursday morning. Police must produce him in court again on 10 May following the interrogation.
