A Dhaka court on Wednesday set 10 June for delivering the verdict in a case filed against cricketer Nasir Hossain and his wife, Tamima Sultana Tammi, over allegations of adultery and fraud.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan
Magistrate Jashita Islam fixed the date after concluding arguments in the case.
Complainant’s lawyer Advocate Ishrat Hasan
said that if convicted, Nasir could face up to seven years in jail, while Tamima
could be sentenced to 21 years on the charges brought against them.
Defence counsel Md Firoz Ali Mondal, however,
expressed hope that the court would acquit both accused. He said Nasir and
Tamima had never visited the place mentioned in the case allegations.
According to the case documents, Tamima
married the plaintiff, Rakib, in 2011, and the couple have a daughter. The case
alleges that she married Nasir in 2020 while her marriage to Rakib was still
valid.
Rakib filed the case in February 2021 after
seeing photos of Nasir and Tamima’s wedding online.
The Police Bureau of Investigation submitted
its report on 30 September 2021, finding the accused culpable. The court framed
charges in 2022, while the trial began in 2023. A total of 10 witnesses
testified during the proceedings.
