A Dhaka court on Tuesday sent the prime accused to jail after the completion of his remand in a case filed over the abduction of a tenth-grade student in front of her father in the capital’s Uttara area.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dilruba Afroz passed the order after police produced Lamin Islam before the court, seeking his detention.

On Monday, a Dhaka court placed the accused on a one-day remand in the case.

According to the case statement, on 22 April, the victim was returning home with her father after sitting for an exam at Uttara Girls’ School.

Around 4:30pm, when they reached the intersection of Road No 6 in Uttara Sector 4, seven to eight unidentified individuals intercepted them in a planned manner.

At that time, they allegedly issued death threats to the victim’s father and forcibly took the girl into a white car, fleeing the scene swiftly with the escort of two motorcycles.

Following the incident, the victim’s father, Kamruzzaman, filed a case with Uttara East Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

On 1 May, police arrested Lamin in Gazipur. The victim was also rescued from the custody of the accused.
