Police arrested 14 activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Juba League from a secret meeting in Chattogram city’s Halishahar area and sent them to jail following a court order.
Officer in-Charge Kazi Mohammad Sultan Ahsan Uddin
of Halishahar Police Station told the Daily Sun that police presented the
arrestees to court with a five-day remand prayer.
The court ordered to send them to jail and hearing
on the remand prayer will be held later, said the OC.
Earlier, the Detective Branch (DB) of Chattogram
Metropolitan Police (CMP) arrested the 14 people activists during a drive at a
restaurant in the Nayabazar Bishwaroad area around 9:30pm on Sunday.
Police sources said there has recently been an
increase in rallies and organised activities under the BCL banner in different
parts of the city.
The arrestees gathered at the restaurants to plot subversive
activities against the government under the banner of “Sheikh Hasina Oikya
Parishad,” police added.
