Import and export activities at Burimari land port will remain suspended for four consecutive days from Tuesday due to the West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections in India.

The decision was confirmed on Monday by ASM Niaz Nahid, General Secretary of the Burimari C&F Agents Association.

According to an official notice, the District Magistrate of Cooch Behar in West Bengal has ordered the suspension of operations at both Changrabandha in India and Burimari land port in Bangladesh from 21 to 23 April in view of the election schedule.

As a result, trade activities will remain closed from Tuesday to Thursday. With the weekly holiday on Friday, the port will stay shut for a total of four days, with normal operations set to resume on Saturday, 25 April.

The association has already informed all relevant offices and traders about the closure.

Meanwhile, Sub-Inspector Saifur Rahman of Burimari land port immigration said Bangladeshi students currently in India will not be allowed to travel during the period. However, passengers seeking medical treatment, as well as those travelling to Bhutan and Nepal, will be permitted to use the route.
