Transport owners and the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) held talks on Sunday to review fares for buses and trucks following an increase in diesel prices.
The meeting began around 7:20pm at the BRTA headquarters in Banani, Dhaka.
According to meeting sources, discussions are underway to review passenger fares for diesel-run buses and minibuses across Dhaka and the rest of the country.
Transport owners’ associations are expected to place their fare proposals at the meeting, after which they will be reviewed and analysed.
BRTA Chairman Meer Ahemed Tariqul Omar is presiding over the meeting.
The government on Saturday night increased fuel prices in line with rising global market trends, with the new rates coming into effect from 12am on Sunday.
According to a circular issued by the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, the move revises retail prices for key petroleum products.
The price of diesel has been set at Tk115 per litre, octane at Tk140, petrol at Tk135, and kerosene at Tk130.
