No security threat ahead of Pahela Baishakh: RAB DG

The Director General of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Additional Inspector General Md. Ahsan Habib Palash, has said that there is no security threat surrounding the Pahela Baishakh celebrations.

He made the remarks at a press briefing on Monday morning (13 April) after inspecting RAB’s security arrangements at Ramna Batamul in the capital.

The RAB DG said that appropriate security measures have been taken to ensure safety at key celebration venues in the capital, including Shahbagh, TSC, Hatirjheel, Manik Mia Avenue and Ramna Batamul, where New Year festivities are being held. For this purpose, screening checkpoints and observation posts have been set up.

He added that RAB’s bomb disposal unit and dog squad are actively conducting operations. Across the country, control rooms, checkpoints and CCTV monitoring systems have been put in place to ensure overall security during the New Year celebrations.

He further said that RAB remains on alert to prevent eve-teasing and sexual harassment. He expressed hope that this year’s celebrations of the Bangla New Year would be more joyous than in previous years.
