Jamaat-e-Islami on Friday demanded reruns of the Bogura-6
and Sherpur-3 general election as the main opposition party repeated its allegations
of widespread electoral fraud and violence by the ruling party activists in the
two polls.
Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar raised the demand
at a protest rally held at the North Gate of National Mosque Baitul Mukarram
after the Friday prayers.
The Jamaat leader labeled the electoral conduct in the two
votes as worse than those witnessed during the Awami League regime.
“The two votes prove
that fair elections cannot be held under an elected government,” Mia Golam
Parwar said, adding the BNP activities during the vote casting shows the party
has assumed the “fascist image” upon ascending to power.
He also alleged that the ruling party is doing hypocrisy
with the July Charter referendum verdict, which outlined people’s support for
crucial constitutional reforms. Without implementing the referendum verdict,
the nation cannot be freed from the curse of fascism, Mia Golam Parwar said.
Jamaat’s Dhaka City North and South wings arranged the protest
rally. Leaders from city units and the central committee joined the rally. After
the rally, a procession circulated various roads in the area.
