The government on Tuesday sent show cause notices to 28
lower court judges asking them to explain their social media posts that criticise
the country’s current status on judicial independence.
The judges have seven working days to explain their positions
in this regard, according to the show-cause notices served by the Ministry of Law,
Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
The 28 judges used the social media platforms to make various
negative and inflammatory comments against their recruiting and monitoring authorities
and to air their personal opinions in this regard, the notices said. In doing
so, the judges violated the High Court’s regulations on social media use, and
committed a “misconduct,” the notices read.
