An Indian court on Sunday sent Faisal Karim Masud, the prime accused in the murder case of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, to jail after the expiry of his 14-day remand in police custody.
The court also sent Faisal’s associate, Alamgir Hossain, to jail.
Both Faisal and Alamgir were produced before the court in West Bengal following interrogation.
When journalists present on the court premises asked Faisal about Hadi’s murder, he said, “I did not commit this act. I was not involved.”
Faisal, however, avoided answering whether he had been framed in the murder.
Meanwhile, the court ordered that the duo be kept in judicial custody for 12 days and set 2 April for their next appearance.
In the early hours of 8 March, the Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police arrested Faisal and his associate Alamgir in the Bongaon area along the Bangladesh-India border.
They were placed on a 14-day remand in police custody for interrogation on trespassing charges.
Sources at the STF said that during interrogation, the duo confessed to their involvement in Hadi’s murder.
One of the leaders of the July Uprising and a prospective independent candidate for the 13th parliamentary election from Dhaka-8, Hadi was shot and critically injured on Box Culvert Road in Dhaka’s Paltan area on 12 December 2025.
He sustained bullet injuries to the head and was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he underwent surgery, before being transferred to Evercare Hospital later that night.
He was admitted to Singapore General Hospital on 15 December after being flown there by air ambulance. He passed away on 18 December while undergoing treatment there.
