A Dhaka court on Wednesday recorded confessional statements
of two accused – Golam Rosul Shihab and Sagar Kabir – in the lawsuit involving the
murder of college student Rakibul Hasan Rakib near the Central Shaheed Minar.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin recorded the voluntarily
delivered statements and sent them to jail.
Meanwhile, the court also granted a five-day remand for two
other accused – Rafin Sheikh and Shahriar Nazim Joy – after police produced
them before the court and sought seven-day remands for each.
According to the petitions, the investigation officer
requested the remand to uncover the main mystery of the murder, recover the
firearms (pistol) and weapons used, and identify other individuals involved in
the incident.
In preliminary questioning, Shihab and Sagar admitted their
direct involvement in the murder and stated that the incident was carried out
under the instructions of top Khulna gangster Salauddin.
On 15 March night, Rakibul Islam Rakib, a 25-year-old
second-year graduate student of Sheikh Borhanuddin College, was shot and
stabbed to death at the Central Shaheed Minar area. The victim's father,
Tarikul Islam Khokon, filed a murder case at Shahbagh Police Station the next
day.
According to the case statement, the accused fired shots at
Rakib when he arrived at Shaheed Minar on a motorcycle. Later, five–six individuals
stabbed him with knives and fled. Rakib was later taken to Dhaka Medical
College Hospital, where the attending doctors declared him dead.
