Order issued scrapping lottery system for school admissions

The government has abolished the lottery-based admission system for students from Class I to Class IX in both public and private secondary schools across the country.

This decision will come into effect from the 2027 academic session. 

The Secondary and Higher Education Division under the education ministry issued an order in this regard.

Following the cancellation of the lottery method, a new admission process will be developed based on consultations with stakeholders, according to the order.

It also mentioned that two previously issued policies on student admissions—dated 13 and 19 November 2025 for public and private secondary schools—have been revoked accordingly.
