Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has extended assistance to 82-year-old Sukmon Bewa of Natore, who broke down in tears after failing to obtain goods despite waiting in a long queue for Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) products.
On Saturday, leaders and activists of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal delivered a month’s supply of food items and Eid gifts to her home in Hapania village of Natore Sadar upazila on behalf of the prime minister.
The elderly woman recently returned empty-handed after standing in a TCB queue for nearly five hours. A video showing her in tears due to exhaustion and disappointment went viral on social media, drawing public sympathy.
After the matter came to the attention of the prime minister, he directed that immediate assistance be provided.
Following the directive, a team led by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Joint General Secretary Mominul Islam Jisan visited her residence and handed over essential food items including rice, lentils and cooking oil along with special Eid gifts.
Overwhelmed with emotion after receiving the assistance, Sukmon Bewa expressed her gratitude.
Speaking on the occasion, Jisan said the support was delivered on behalf of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and that standing beside people in distress is a moral responsibility. Local residents said the gesture reflected compassion and responsiveness towards ordinary citizens.
