Father, holding child in arms, surrenders to police after murdering wife

A father went to the police station to surrender himself all the while holding his child in arms after stabbing his wife to death shortly before breaking the couple's sacred Ramadan fast in the evening on Saturday.

The incident took place at Dakkhin Para, 41 No Ward, under Patenga Police Station in Chattogram city, confirmed the police station's Officer-in-Charge Mostofa Ahmed.

The victim is Halima Akter, 30, while the killer husband Jahirul Islam hails from Sonapur area, Ramganj union in Lakshmipur. Halima's body has been sent to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

According to locals, the couple had been engaged in a dispute over unknown matters for around a month. The disagreements reached a tipping point shortly before the evening on Saturday, and Jahirul resorted to stabbing Halima to death.

Shortly afterwards, instead of fleeing the scene, he dashed to the Patenga Police Station while his face was still stained by the blood of his wife, to the surprise of the officers. He also brought his little kid along.
