A Dhaka court on Wednesday imposed a travel ban on Md Farhad Hossain, former principal of Monipur High School and College in the capital’s Mirpur area, and his wife Anjuman Ara Khatun.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order following a plea filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to the petition, an investigation is underway against Farhad Hossain and others over allegations of embezzling around Tk200 crore from a development project of the institution, acquisition of illegal assets, and evading government revenue.
The petition said the accused may leave the country and flee abroad, which could hamper the ongoing investigation. Therefore, imposing a travel ban is necessary in the interest of a fair and proper investigation.
Meanwhile, the same court also imposed a travel ban on National Board of Revenue (NBR) Additional Commissioner Sadhan Kumar Kundu over graft allegations.
According to the petition, he is under investigation for allegedly acquiring assets beyond known sources of income.
The petition further said that the accused is attempting to transfer illegally acquired assets in his name and flee abroad.
Therefore, a travel ban is necessary to ensure a proper investigation into the allegations.
