WFP launches Ramadan fundraising campaign to combat hunger in Bangladesh

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has called on supporters to join its Ramadan fundraising campaign to help families facing food insecurity and build resilience across Bangladesh.

As part of the initiative, members of the public can donate directly to WFP through its official bKash account (01322846197, account name: World Food Programme) under the Donation section of the app. Donations can also be made online through a dedicated link provided by the organisation.

Well-known personalities, including chef and writer Kishwar Chowdhury, have joined the campaign to raise awareness and encourage contributions.

Kishwar, who gained popularity in Australia and Bangladesh after her appearance on MasterChef Australia Season 13 in 2021, said she is supporting WFP’s humanitarian work during Ramadan.

“This Ramadan, I stand with WFP in their lifesaving and life-changing work for Bangladeshi communities affected by hunger and at high risk of climate shocks,” she said, adding that contributions will support the organisation’s work across the country, particularly for women and children facing food and nutrition insecurity.

Food insecurity remains a major challenge in Bangladesh. According to the 2025 Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) analysis, around 16 million people in the country are facing severe food insecurity, with many at risk of sliding into emergency levels without sustained assistance.

Severe food insecurity means families often skip meals, eat less nutritious food, or go entire days without eating due to lack of access to sufficient food.

Simone Parchment, Country Director of WFP Bangladesh, said the holy month of Ramadan offers an opportunity to support vulnerable families. “In the spirit of Ramadan, we invite everyone to extend generosity to families struggling to meet their basic food and nutrition needs,” she said.

“Every taka given will help families weather emergencies and move toward food security and resilience. Together, let us work to build a hunger-free and prosperous Bangladesh,” she added.
