Indian police have arrested the prime accused and his associate in the murder case of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.

The Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police arrested Faisal Karim Masud alias Rahul, 37, and Alamgir Hossain, 34, in the Bongaon area in the wee hours of Sunday, Indian news agency ANI said on X, citing a press release from the STF.

“There was secret credible information that two Bangladeshi nationals, after committing serious crimes including extortion and murder in Bangladesh, had fled their country and illegally entered India, and were trying to take shelter in the border area of Bongaon with the intention of crossing back into Bangladesh when an opportunity arises,” read the release.

Acting on this information, a raid was conducted, and the duo was apprehended.

During preliminary interrogation, it was revealed that Faisal, along with Alamgir, committed the murder of Osman Hadi and then fled away, according to the police.

“They illegally entered Indian territory through Meghalaya border and moved through different places in India and finally, came to Bongaon, West Bengal, with the intention of crossing back into Bangladesh,” police said.

“A specific case has been registered in this regard. They have been sent to police custody, on their production before the concerned court today. Further investigation is on,” the release added.

One of the leaders of the July Uprising and a prospective independent candidate for the 13th parliamentary election from Dhaka-8, Hadi was shot and critically injured on Box Culvert Road in the capital’s Paltan area on 12 December 2025.

He sustained bullet injuries to the head and was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he underwent surgery, before being transferred to Evercare Hospital later that night.

He was admitted to Singapore General Hospital on 15 December after being flown there by air ambulance. He passed away on 18 December while undergoing treatment there.
