A total of 46 international flights operated by various international airlines have been cancelled at Shah Amanat International Airport over the past five days due to the escalating war situation in the Middle East.
Airport Public Relations Officer Engineer Ibrahim Khalil confirmed the matter to the Daily Sun on Wednesday afternoon.
Ibrahim said that since 28 February, all international flights from Chattogram to Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Dubai and Doha have remained suspended due to the conflict in the region. “A total of 46 international flights, including today’s 11 flights, have been cancelled,” he said.
However, flights to and from Madinah, Jeddah and Muscat continue to operate as scheduled, he added.
Tensions flared after Israel and the United States launched strikes on Iran last Saturday, prompting retaliatory missile and drone attacks by Tehran targeting Israel and US installations across the Middle East. In response, Iraq, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan closed their airspace on 28 February, severely disrupting regional air travel.
The fallout has left many passengers stranded and facing significant hardship at the airport.
Authorities have advised affected passengers to contact their respective travel agencies without delay. For those already at the airport without accommodation, arrangements have been made through the Expatriates’ Welfare Desk to provide necessary lodging support.
Airport officials have urged passengers to remain patient and cooperate as the situation continues to unfold.
