The government has declared Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus, chief
adviser of the former interim administration, as a “Very Very Important Person”
(VVIP) for a period of one year starting from the date of his handing over the
power.
Md Saifullah Panna, secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office,
has signed the order issued in this regard. The interim government had made the
decision just before stepping down.
The VVIP ensures that he will continue to receive the
highest level of state security and protocol through the Special Security Force
(SSF), under Section 2(a) of the Special Security Force Act, 2021.
This move consolidates previous rules, repealing the 2002
gazette, and ensures his VVIP treatment long after leaving office.
Earlier, the interim government issued a gazette
notification in this regard on 10 February, just two days before the 13th
Parliamentary elections. However, the matter came into light recently.
