Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that the main objective of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) government is to ensure a trade-friendly environment by maintaining law and order across the country to foster business.
“Our main objective is to ensure a favorable
environment for business by controlling the law and order situation and
maintaining overall stability,” he said.
The minister made the remarks during a courtesy call
by members of the board of directors of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and
Industry (DCCI) at his office at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday.
He emphasised that maintaining law and order remains
the government’s top priority to create conducive atmosphere for business and
trade.
Highlighting efforts to stabilise the market, the
home minister said the government is taking measures to control commodity
prices and prevent artificial price hikes.
Salahuddin, also Standing Committee member of BNP,
noted that steps are being taken to dismantle long-standing syndicates that
have dominated the commodity sector over the past 10 to 15 years.
“We are working to ensure that commodity prices are
not artificially increased. Instead of following traditional methods, we will
adopt new and creative approaches to ensure the security of business and
trade,” he added.
The minister further said the government is
committed to fulfilling both short-term and long-term expectations of the
people, with a strong focus on stability and a business-friendly environment
nationwide.
Addressing concerns in the transport sector, he said
the government is determined to restore order and eliminate extortion across
the country.
Special drives will initially begin in divisional
headquarters and major cities, with coordinated efforts from the administration
and law enforcement agencies.
During the meeting, DCCI President Taskeen Ahmed
sought the minister’s cooperation in improving law and order, preventing
extortion, and restoring discipline in the transport sector.
DCCI Senior Vice President Razeev H Chowdhury, Vice
President Md Salem Sulaiman, Secretary General (acting) AKM Asaduzzaman
Patwary, and other board members were also present at the meeting.
