A new organisation for journalists covering
the aviation and tourism sectors has been launched in Dhaka with the aim of
protecting professional interests and enhancing skills.
The Bangladesh Aviation and Tourism
Journalists Association (BATJA) officially began its journey at a meeting held
at the auditorium of the Dhaka Crime Reporters Association on Sunday. The
association brings together journalists from different media outlets
specialising in aviation and tourism reporting.
At the founding meeting, a nine-member
executive committee was unanimously formed. Desh TV reporter Alimuzzaman Safwan
was appointed Convener, while Ekushey Television reporter Iman Chowdhury was
elected Member Secretary. Other committee members are Md Shahadat Hossain (Desh
Samachar), Tanzila Khan Mim (Ekhon TV), Kazi Faisal (Channel 24), Muhammad
Jahangir Kabir (The Daily Ittefaq), Mehedi Hasan Murad (The Daily Inqilab),
Ariful Islam (News Twenty Four), and Mahtab Minhaj (ATN News).
Leaders of BATJA said the association will
work to strengthen cooperation among journalists covering civil aviation,
airports, airlines, and related sectors, ensure fact-based and quality
journalism, and safeguard professional rights.
They also noted that, given the strategic
importance of the aviation sector, BATJA will organise regular training
sessions, workshops, and exchange meetings to enhance the professional skills
of journalists covering this beat.
Among those present at the meeting were the
organisation’s adviser Abu Darda Jobayer, mofussil editor of The Daily Amar
Desh, and Rajib Khan, Head of Digital at Channel 24.
