A 90-year-old voter, Kamola Rani from Bhimer Par village in Mahilara Union of Gournadi upazila, cast her vote in the Barishal-1 (Gournadi-Agailjhara) constituency on Thursday.
Depending on a walking stick, she travelled nearly two kilometres to reach the Ananta Narayan Secondary School polling centre.
Accompanied by her daughter-in-law, Akhirani Bhakta, Kamola Rani expressed joy after casting her vote for her preferred candidate.
“I have crossed 90 and witnessed many elections. In some polls, I voted myself; in others, my vote was cast by someone else. I never thought I would see a fair election at this age,” she said.
She added that meeting acquaintances at the polling centre and hearing that they had cast their votes freely made her even happier. “I feel a sense of peace in the final stage of my life,” she said.
