Defying age and morning fog, 105-year-old Md Hekmat Ali Sarkar arrived at a polling station in Satkhira at dawn and cast his vote, becoming the first voter at the Alipur Union Secondary School centre.
Hekmat Ali left home around 6:30am with his family members and reached the centre shortly before voting began. Soon after officials opened the polls, he entered the booth and exercised his franchise.
“I feel good after casting my vote. I voted first,” he said after leaving the polling station.
His son, Md Rahmat Ali, 42, said the family came together early in the morning to take part in the election. “We came around 6:30am. Our family voted first in the village. My father is 105 years old, and we brought him with us,” he said.
Local residents said Hekmat Ali’s presence at the centre inspired younger voters and created an emotional atmosphere.
Authorities continue polling in Satkhira district in a peaceful and festive environment as voters turn out across centres for the 13th parliamentary election and referendum.
