Two assistant presiding officers have been dismissed for allegedly leaving a polling centre in Barishal-2 constituency without permission.

The incident took place at Habibpur polling centre in Uzirpur upazila on Wednesday night.

The two officials, identified as teachers Md Obaidul and Ayesha Begum, were removed from their duties around 11:30pm.

According to eyewitnesses, Md Obaidul and Ayesha Begum were serving as assistant presiding officers at the Habibpur Secondary School polling centre. At around 10:30pm, they reportedly left the centre without informing or seeking approval from the presiding officer.

Uzirpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Assistant Returning Officer Md Ali Suja said that action was taken immediately after receiving the allegation. The two officials were dismissed and replaced with two new assistant presiding officers.

He said polling officials are not permitted to leave a centre after entering it without the presiding officer’s authorisation. The accused officials violated this rule.
