On the eve of the 13th National Parliamentary Election, a group of armed individuals allegedly fired blank shots at the residence of a BNP activist at Raozan upazila in the district on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident took place at the residence of Rustam
Ali, a UAE expatriate, from village Shamsherpara under Kadalpur union of the
upazila.
Rustam Ali is known as follower of BNP candidate for
Raozan constituency Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury.
Sources said that some 10 to 12 armed individuals
went to Shamsherpara village and fired several blank shots targeting Rustam’s
residences.
On information, a team of police along with army
personnel rushed to the spot, but didn’t find anyone.
Officer in-Charge (OC) Sazedul Islam of Raozan
police station said they visited the scene along with the army-men after
receiving reports of gunfire at the expatriate’s house.
“The reason behind the firing and those involved
could not be ascertained immediately. Legal action will be taken after
investigation,” he said.
However, when contacted, Chattogram Superintendent
of Police Mohammad Nazir Ahmed Khan dismissed the allegation describing it as a
“rumour.”
He said, “These are rumours. I have no such
information. I returned from Raozan only half an-hour ago.”
