Azaz removed as DNCC administrator

The government has removed Mohammad Azaz from his post as administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), marking a significant administrative change.

According to a gazette issued by the Local Government Division on Monday, Additional Secretary Suraiya Akhter Jahan has been appointed to the post, replacing Azaz.

The gazette states that Suraiya Akhter Jahan will exercise the powers and privileges of the DNCC mayor as an additional responsibility alongside her current post. However, she will only be entitled to the prescribed duty allowance and will not receive any additional financial benefits.

Mohammad Azaz, chairman of the River and Delta Research Centre, had been appointed DNCC administrator on 12 February last year. His removal comes just days after a court imposed a travel ban on him following an application filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
