Ahead of the upcoming national parliamentary election, the Bangladesh Army conducted an election preparedness drill in Thakurgaon to maintain law and order and ensure voters can exercise their franchise safely.
The drill was held on Sunday afternoon at the
Parpugi Dimukhi High School field in Jamalpur union of Thakurgaon Sadar
upazila, organised by the Thakurgaon Army Camp.
Members of the police and Ansar–VDP also took part
in the exercise.
During the drill, security forces rehearsed
strategies to deal with potential clashes, attempts to seize polling centres,
ballot box snatching, vandalism, and other disorderly situations.
The army demonstrated modern tactics for emergency
response, rapid deployment, formation of security cordons, and maintaining law
and order around polling stations.
Measures such as forming Quick Response Teams
(QRTs), conducting patrols, setting up checkpoints, and crowd control
techniques were also showcased.
Armed patrols on the town’s main roads were
intensified during the exercise.
Officials said the army is fully prepared to ensure
a peaceful environment during the election, adding that such drills help build
public confidence and play a vital role in making the election free, fair, and
credible.
Local dignitaries, election officials, and members
of the public were present to observe the drill.
