A Special Metropolitan Magistrate of DMP on Thursday sent
three youths to two months of rigorous jail for physically assaulting two
intern doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) the previous night.
Md Shakib Hossain, 25, Md Shahriar Nazim, 21, and Imtiaz
Ahammad, 25, were sentenced to two months in jail, confirmed Muhammad Talebur
Rahman, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
According to Talebur Rahman, on Wednesday night some people
admitted Lucky Begum, 35, to DMCH in critical conditions. Around 11pm, the
on-duty doctors declared her dead.
Hearing this, Lucky Begum’s son, Rakib, accused the doctors
of negligence in treating the patient.
Later, Rakib’s frieng, Shakib Hossain, phoned 20-30 youths,
urging them to come to the hospital.
On arrival, the group misbehaved with the hospital staff,
and at one point beat up two intern doctors, prompting the entire group of
intern doctors to suspend services for three hours in protest against the assault.
Security personnel later managed to apprehend three of the
culprits, while the others managed to flee.
