A Dhaka court on Sunday imposed a travel ban on Zakaria Rahman, an associate of Syed Abed Ali alias Jibon, the driver of the former Public Service Commission (PSC) chairman who came into the spotlight in the BCS question leak scandal.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz
passed the order following a petition filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC)
Assistant Director Al-Amin.
According to the petition, Zakaria Rahman, a
government official, is involved in an organised question leak syndicate and is
attempting to flee the country. Therefore, it is necessary to impose a ban on
his foreign travel in the interest of a proper investigation.
Earlier, Abed Ali was arrested on 8 July 2024, and
has remained in jail since then.
On 5 January 2025, the Anti-Corruption Commission
(ACC) filed a case against Abed Ali on charges of acquiring assets inconsistent
with known sources of income under the Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2004; the
Prevention of Corruption Act 1947; and the Money Laundering Prevention Act
2012.
The case alleges that the accused amassed illegal
assets worth more than Tk5 crore and carried out suspicious transactions
amounting to approximately Tk45 crore.
