Students of Tejgaon College blocked roads at Farmgate intersection in Dhaka on Sunday morning, demanding swift justice for classmate Sakibul Hasan Rana and the arrest of his killers.
The protest, which began around 10:15am, brought traffic in the area to a standstill, causing extreme suffering for commuters and office-goers.
Eyewitnesses reported that several hundred students gathered at Farmgate intersection and surrounding roads and started chanting slogans.
Law enforcement officers were deployed to bring the situation under control.
Rana, an 18-year-old higher secondary second-year student, was critically injured during a clash between two groups at the Tejgaon College hostel on 6 December last year. He succumbed to his injuries four days later, on 10 December, while receiving medical treatment.
Since his death, his classmates have repeatedly protested, demanding justice. Today’s road blockade is the latest in a series of demonstrations calling for accountability and the speedy arrest of those responsible for Rana’s death.
