Former NCP leader Tasnim Jara filed her nominations papers to
the Election Commission on the final day of submissions on Monday, after
completing the monumental task of collecting signatures of 4,693 voters within
only two days.
Around 9:17pm on Monday, Tasnim, the former senior joint
member secretary at NCP, announced the development in a facebook post, saying: “We
Have Made It!”
On Saturday evening, she announced her resignation from all NCP
posts after rumours all but confirmed that the youth-led party would join an
electoral alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami.
Tasnim broke the news in a facebook post, adding she would
contest from the Dhaka-9 seat as an independent candidate.
However, the decision required her to do an almost
impossible task: collecting endorsement signatures from at least 1% of voters in
her desired constituency. The figure translates as 4,693 voters in Dhaka-9, and,
despite being a new face in politics, she managed to collect all of these
within the next two days.
