Khaleda Zia’s health deteriorates

BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is under close medical observation at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, following “deterioration” of her condition, her personal physician Dr AZM Zahid Hossain said on Monday night.

“We are keeping a vigilant watch as she receives critical care in the ICU. I have nothing more to say than this,” he told the Daily Sun at 8:47pm.

Zahid, also a member of the BNP Standing Committee, urged the countrymen to pray for the swift recovery of the BNP chairperson, who has been undergoing treatment at the hospital since 23 November with numerous health complications.

Following her worsening condition, the medical board held a meeting, BNP sources said.  

“Begum Khaleda Zia was responding positively to one complication but was immediately affected by another one,” said Sayrul Kabir Khan, a member of the BNP Media Wing, quoting a doctor of the medical board formed for her treatment.

Meanwhile, BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman went to Evercare Hospital on Monday night to see his ailing mother. Tarique’s wife Zubaida Rahman and their daughter Zaima Rahman also reached the hospital early Tuesday.

Later, they left the hospital around 2am.

The BNP leader has visited Khaleda Zia several times since returning to the country on 25 December.
