The government has launched a special initiative to combat air pollution by encouraging citizens to submit photographs of waste burning incidents, one of the major contributors to deteriorating air quality across Bangladesh.
Air
pollution has become a serious public health concern in the country, with
emissions from vehicles, brick kilns, industrial facilities and waste burning
significantly affecting air quality and increasing the risk of respiratory
diseases, particularly among children, the elderly and people with pre-existing
health conditions.
As
part of its efforts to identify and control pollution sources, the government
has decided to take firm action against waste burning and has initiated a
process to collect accurate information on locations where such incidents
occur. Officials believe active public participation is crucial for the success
of the initiative.
Citizens
who witness waste burning have been asked to send photographs of the incidents
to [email protected], along with the photographer’s name, mobile
number, exact location and address, and the time of the incident.
According
to the initiative, the best 10 photographs will be selected each month after
verification, and rewards will be given to the contributors.
The
government expects that widespread public involvement will play a significant
role in controlling air pollution across the country.
