Law Adviser denies ministry link to bail of suspect in Osman Hadi shooting

Law Adviser Asif Nazrul has said the Law Ministry had no involvement in the High Court bail granted to Faisal Karim Masud, accused of shooting Sharif Osman Hadi with intent to kill.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday night (17 December), Nazrul said the High Court is an independent judicial body and its bail decisions are not subject to control by the Law Ministry. 

He noted that Masud, described as a Chhatra League activist, was arrested by RAB last year and later secured bail in an arms case from the High Court.

The adviser expressed concern over what he termed “abnormal” bail decisions in serious criminal cases, warning that granting bail to identified violent offenders who may reoffend poses a threat to public safety. 

He also urged those allegedly involved in “bail trading” to stop, saying such decisions were endangering lives.
