Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, has called an emergency press conference on Wednesday (10 Dec).
The briefing will be held at 3:00pm in the conference room of the
Local Government Division at the Secretariat, where he is expected to address
current political developments.
The announcement was made on Tuesday evening during a programme of
the local government, rural development and cooperatives ministry.
According to the ministry, the adviser will speak on “contemporary
issues,” though no further details were provided.
Asif Mahmud has already indicated that he intends to contest the
upcoming national election.
However, he has not clarified which constituency he may run from,
nor whether he plans to join any political party or alliance.
His decision to call an emergency press conference ahead of the
election schedule has triggered widespread speculation, with many anticipating
that he may announce his resignation from the advisory position to take part in
the national polls.
Sources at the Adviser’s office suggest that he may use Wednesday’s
press conference to discuss which party he will represent in the election and
whether he will formally step down from his government post before announcing
his candidacy.
