As of 9 December 2025, Khaleda Zia’s health condition remains unchanged, with the medical board stating that it has neither improved nor deteriorated.
She continues to receive treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, where a medical board — comprising Bangladeshi and foreign specialists — is overseeing her care.
Her personal physician, AZM Zahid Hossain, said she is undergoing the prescribed treatment and responding as expected. He asked the public not to pay heed to rumours.
According to BNP sources, the medical board has not yet approved any plan for her to travel abroad for further treatment.
What we know about her health complications
When she was admitted to hospital on 23 November, Khaleda Zia was reported to be suffering from lung and heart infections. She was transferred to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) on 27 November.
According to reports, she has multiple long-standing conditions, including heart issues (with a pacemaker), kidney and liver problems, respiratory illness, diabetes, arthritis and other age-related ailments.
On 4 December, a four-member medical team from the United Kingdom arrived at the hospital to consult on her treatment.
Her party’s leadership says she is under intensive monitoring and receiving “full care and support”.
Travel to London postponed for now
There had been plans to transfer Khaleda Zia to London for advanced treatment — possibly via air ambulance — once her health stabilised. But as of now, medical professionals have not given approval for her to travel abroad.
Her condition remains under close observation at Evercare Hospital.
Impacts on politics and BNP programmes
Because of her condition, BNP has postponed a nationwide torch-rally roadshow scheduled for December.
Supporters and party members have appealed to the public for prayers and patience, requesting updates only from authorised medical sources.
What remains unclear
No confirmed date has been set for any potential foreign transfer for treatment.
Doctors describe her condition as “unchanged” — neither improving significantly nor worsening rapidly.
The long-term prognosis remains uncertain given her advanced age and multiple comorbidities.
Overall, Khaleda Zia remains in a stable-but-critical condition, receiving continuous medical care in Dhaka. Her treatment continues under close supervision at Evercare Hospital, and any decision to move her abroad depends on further stabilisation.
