BNP Chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia’s health condition remains unchanged, and her medical board has yet to approve her travel abroad for advanced treatment.

“Madam (Khaleda Zia) is under close observation of the medical board, including specialist doctors from the United Kingdom in the CCU of Evercare hospital,” BNP Media Cell member Shyrul Kabir Khan told the Daily Sun at 8:45pm on Sunday, referring to the BNP chief’s personal physician, Dr AZM Zahid Hossain.

Shyrul further said that if there is any new decision to be made, they will inform it later.

“The BNP chairperson's family and the party have sought prayers from the countrymen to Almighty Allah for her speedy recovery,” he added.

On Saturday, Dr Zahid, a member of her medical board and BNP Standing Committee, told journalists, “Now the medical board urgently decided that it would not be right for her to fly at this moment. That is why we are delaying the matter of taking her abroad.”

Khaleda Zia has been receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital since 23 November.

Dr Zahid explained that Khaleda Zia’s treatment involves a medical board comprising prominent local doctors, alongside specialists from the UK, the US, and China.

Meanwhile, the civil aviation ministry sources told the Daily Sun that the air ambulance will arrive at Dhaka airport on Tuesday and depart the following day.

Khaleda Zia continues to be treated under close observation at the Critical Care Unit of Evercare Hospital, led by Prof Shahabuddin Talukder.

She was moved to the CCU on 27 November as her condition worsened.

Khaleda’s daughter-in-law, Dr Zubaida Rahman – also a medical board member – arrived in Dhaka from London on Friday to accompany her mother-in-law abroad once cleared to fly.
